Self-employment Program

The Self-Employment (SE) Program offers assistance to past and current Employment Insurance (EI) recipients wanting to start a business.  The program is designed for individuals who have a workable business idea.

The Self-Employment Program is a provincially funded program sponsored by Manitoba Competitiveness Training and Trade and Employment Manitoba.  The SE Program provides financial assistance and management training for individuals who want to start their own business.

People who currently receive EI normally lose these benefits when they start a business.  Through the SE Program the client is allowed to establish the business and continue to receive benefits while on the program.  In addition, other unemployed individuals qualifying under the SE program may receive benefits (in the form of a living allowance).  This enables the client to have an income to live on so that they can reinvest profits back into the business.

It is up to the client to contact their local employment centre.
